Urgent/Routine Appointments

To request an appointment (Monday to Friday):

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use your answers to triage your request and choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Routine Nurse appointments

To request a routine appointment up to 4 weeks in advance:

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • by text

Appointments by phone or text can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

  • Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will be offered another appointment at a mutually agreed time.
  • Please let us know if you cannot keep your appointment; we will then be able to offer it to another patient.
  • If you fail to attend two or more appointments without advising us, then you may be asked to leave this practice and find another GP.
  • If you are over 16 and have not been seen by a doctor in the last three years, you may be requested to see the nurse for a health check.
  • Patients who come to the surgery and expect to be seen without an appointment will be offered the next available appointment and this will usually mean having to come back later. We are not a walk-in centre or an emergency unit.

Non English speaking patients

Please make double appointments to see us and request a translator. Hailey View Surgery uses an effective telephone translation service in order for you to communicate effectively with a doctor or nurse.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

  • phone us on 01992 463363 during opening times. If we are not open, you will have the option to leave a message.
  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system: SystmOnline
  • reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Urgent care centre

We also have an Urgent Care Centre which is based in Welwyn Garden City. It is a walk-in service available 24/7. We also have access to a minor injuries unit which is based in Cheshunt. This is a walk-in service that is available 8am to 8pm every day of the week. If you would like more information on what can be treated at this centre, please see leaflets that are available from the surgery.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face or by text
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.

To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the surgery as soon after 8am as possible.
